August: Sawie’s Story

This month we are sharing Sawie’s story.

Sawie is a young #SGBV survivor who was charged with murder, after acting in self-defence. With AdvocAid’s intervention, these mitigating circumstances were recognised and she was given a reduced sentence.

Kadie* is a young woman who experienced separation from her daughter while incarcerated. Her case highlights the need for gender responsive legal reform to achieve a just and equal society that respects and prioritises women’s rights.

June: Maria’s Story

This month we are sharing Maria’s story. Maria was convicted for murder. She was subjected to discrimination while incarcerated due to her epilepsy. Advocaid was Maria’s main support mechanism. May: Aminata’s Story

This month we are sharing Aminata’s story. Aminata* was 17 years-old when she was sentenced to death for the murder of her abusive boyfriend.
